World water day 22march

About World Water Day | 22 March

International Water Day, on 22 March each year, is tied in with concentrating consideration on the significance of water.

Today, there are over 663 million people living without a safe water supply close to home, spending countless hours queuing or trekking to distant sources, and coping with the health impacts of using contaminated water.

An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The first International World Water Day, designated by the United Nations, was commemorated in 1993.

World Water Day is a great time to be conscious of how much water we use every day, and recognize how fortunate we are to have it at our disposal. And, in turn, be concious of how access to clean and safe water positively affects our lives, our economies, and our societies.
